Merry Christmas

This was my first Christmas! I really enjoyed watching my Mama put a tree inside our house, and hanging pretty and shiny things from the branches. Turns out that it is a fake tree though!?! I quickly learned that if my ball rolled under the tree, I was not allowed to run towards it. My mama would get the ball for me. There were presents wrapped under the tree for me and my siblings. Santa brought us new balls and chew toys. Well, mama said they were from Santa; but I never actually saw him. She said he was sneaky and brought presents when we slept. Next year, I am going to stay up and wait for him. Lots of family came over to celebrate Christmas, and I enjoyed all the attention I received.

So Fresh and So Clean

Today was the dreaded bath day. Here is photographic evidence of how much I dislike it. I jumped out of the tub twice trying to make my escape. But mama is fast and caught me quick.

Mama told me that she used to bathe me in the sink because I was so little.

This week I almost got another brother. My papa brought home a fella named Vader that normally stays at papa's friend's house. Vader was homesick though and kept trying to go back there even though it is kind of far away. He chewed part of our fence! Papa took Vader back to his old house before the night was over. Vader sure doesn't know what he's missing being here. Our house is so much fun! And we get lots of treats. I got treats for taking my bath today! But I hope Vader is happy again.

A Poem About My House

Mama found this poem on the internet and it describes our house well.

Why own a dog? There's a danger you know,
You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.
There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger.
While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger.

One dog is no trouble, and two are so funny.
The third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey.
The fifth one's delightful, the sixth one's a breeze,
You find you can live with a houseful of ease.

So how 'bout another? Would you really dare?
They're really quite easy but, oh, Lord the hair!
With dogs on the sofa and dogs on the bed,
And crates in the kitchen, it's no bother, you've said.

They're really no trouble, their manners are great.
What's one more dog and just one more crate?
The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty,
The floor is all footprints, the furniture dusty.

The housekeeping suffers, but what do you care?
Who minds a few noseprints and a little more hair?
So let's keep a puppy, you can always find room,
And a little more time for the dust cloth and broom.

There's hardly a limit to the dogs you can add,
The thought of a cutback sure makes you sad.
Each one is so special, so useful, so funny.
The vet and food bills grows larger, you owe BIG money.

Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,
Except other "dog folks" who live the same way.
Your lawn has now died, and your shrubs are dead too,
But your weekends are busy, you're off with your crew.

There's dog food and vitamins, training and shots.
And entries and travel and motels which cost lots.
Is it worth it you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?
Then that favorite one comes and climbs in your lap.

His look says you're special and you know that you will
Keep all of the critters in spite of the bill.
Some just for showing and some just to breed.
And some just for loving, they all fill a need.

God, winter's a hassle, the dogs hate it too.
But they must have their walks though they're numb and your blue.
Late evening is awful, you scream and you shout
At the dogs on the sofa who refuse to go out.

The dogs and the dog shows, the travel, the thrills,
The work and the worry, the pressure, the bills.
The whole thing seems worth it, the dogs are your life.
They're charming and funny and offset the strife.

Your life-style has changed. Things won't be the same.
Yes, those dogs are addictive and so is the dog game.

P.S.- I'm that favorite one that comes to sit in your lap!

Additional Archie Alliteration

Accessorized: I, Archie, dress up for Halloween, and always wear a charm necklace (my collar). I also sometimes try to wear the pawrents' socks.

Affectionate: I, Archie, am always ready to give and receive some affection. In fact, I huff and puff if there is a lack of affection and attention.

Abuzz & Abubble: I, Archie, am an eager and excited dog when the pawrents arrive home. I run to where I know my mama puts her purse when she comes home, and I wait there abuzz and abubble to greet her.

Admonished & Abominable: I, Archie, occasionally do something bad, like pull the stuffing out of the dog bed, and I run and hide when my pawrents reprimand me with loud, strern voices.

Happy Halloween

I had two Halloween costumes last night (because I am spoiled silly)! Papa wanted me to dress up as a Devil. Mama wanted me to be a Pumpkin.

Peek-A-Boo

In addition to chasing balls and my brother's tail, one of my favorite pastimes is playing Hide-and Seek.

New Friends and My First Blog Tag Award

My new friends Oakley and Swisher have tagged and bestowed me with the Oops I Ate It Award!

Here are the rules for accepting this...

When accepting this award, you must blog about the food you have stolen when your humans were not watching…If you have never stolen any food, you must be a really good pup!! You can accept this yummy tray of cookies as your reward! Next add the logo of this award to your Blog (optional), then nominate at least 5 other furry blogs and let them know by leaving a message on their Blogs…

Since I am a really good pup, I have never stolen my pawrents' food. Or maybe it is because I am spoiled and if I wait patiently I am given tastes of everything, and thus do not have to resort to stealing. But I have stolen my brothers & sisters' dog food and treats before. And I was recently reprimanded  for stealing and chewing on a used band-aid.
Thanks, Oakley & Swisher, for the yummy award!
P.S.: This is a secret, but my mama likes to snack on dry cereal like Apple Jacks while watching TV in bed, and she will let me eat a couple too. Papa thinks this snacking is hilarious because sometimes Mama has a Froot Loop or Apple Jack stuck in her hair, or on her face, when she wakes up in the morning.

Pantsless Smarty Pants

I recently read an article about dogs' intelligence being similar to that of a toddlers' understanding of vocabulary and math. Here is a link to this interesting article: Dog I.Q. Article

So, in addition to my leisure reading of books like Marley & Me, I am now studying the dictionary to expand my vocabulary, and to be able to understand the words that the pawrents spell when they are having sneaky, secret conversations. Brother Catfish already knows what they mean when they say the letters O.U.T.S.I.D.E. and T.R.E.A.T. I think they talk about the ball by spelling it out and I am determined to learn what they are saying.

Reading makes me sleepy though.

P.S.: Marley & Me  was recommended to my Mama by her friend Linda (who also loves to read), and it was purchased with a book gift certificate from Linda. Thank you again, Linda!

Gaseous Maximus

Mama likes calling me adjectives that begin with the letter 'A'. Adorable, Awesome, Amazing, etc..

Last night she came up with a new one, inspired by my flatulence: Atomic Archie.

She wants me to ask you all how can such a small dog create such a big stink bomb?

Football

I had no idea my pawrents are fascinated with balls like I am. Last night, I was introduced to a strange shaped ball they called a "football," and I experienced my first football game. My pawrents were super excited about it, and to be honest, their behavior freaked me out. They yelled a lot. At first I thought they were yelling at me, but it soon became apparent that I no longer was the center of their attention. They were yelling at the TV (further proof they are crazy, yes?). At certain points they would jump up and down, shake a thing with orange & blue strings that mama called her "pom-pom",  and scream "Touchdown!" And what in the world is a "War Eagle"? Mama took photographs to commemorate my first football game. We share below.

I'm Ready for my Close-Up

This picture was taken when I was 5 months old. That pretty lady snuggling with me is my mama's niece, Randa. She has a dog too, so you know she's cool. I've learned a lot in the two months since this photograph was taken. I sit, stay, walk on a leash, fetch balls (did someone say ball? where's the ball?), tug rope, jump on the bed (although it is a high bed and it usually takes me a couple of tries), and I know that my bathroom is that green place outside. I think the pawrents are trying to teach me something called 'Shake;' but I don't understand what it is yet. They keep grabbing one of my front paws though. I told you they were crazy.

This is a recent picture (taken the same day as the crooked lip picture below that mama likes). I've grown a lot in the past two months. Today I weigh 28 pounds.

Since I know it is just a matter of time before I am a famous celebrity, here's my "close up."

The Best Worst Dog

Here's proof of last night's party. I love to chase after my brother Catfish's tail. Below is a nicer photograph of him so that you can see his face. He's handsome too. He gets in trouble a lot with the pawrents. Papa says he's the best worst dog in the world. Mama says his breath is deadly. I admire him a lot.

Party Like a Rockstar

I'm tired today. I over-celebrated the beginning of my blog yesterday by playing too hard! Last night I threw up on the pawrents' bed. Told ya I was a rockstar! I tried to get mama to take a picture of it for the blog, but she said it would scare away readers. I call it art though. So instead she is sharing the picture above to show off my listlessness this morning. That's my older sister Zoe beside me. She's really big and lazy. Not much fun to play with, but she is great for a nap buddy.

The 'Rents

This is a picture of my biological dad and mom, Hurley & Fiona. My love of balls is obviously inherited.

Early First Pictures

This is a photograph of me, my biological mom, Fiona, and the rest of my litter. I am one day old in this picture. I'm not sure which one is me. I had one white sister. You can see her nursing in this photograph. One of my papa pawrent's friends adopted her. My mom looks tired.

Here is a photograph taken of me at 2 months old. I look a little wobbly. I still had longs ears then. Maybe that's why.
My breed is called Shortybull. It is a miniature bulldog, with English, French, etc.. Here is a link for my breed: shortybulls.com

Archie/Parcheesi/Crazy Tongue

Here is a recent photograph of me.  I love my new collar that I'm wearing. It is black and has a pattern of white skulls and crossbones. Perfect for me, because I'm a rockstar! My mama pawrent likes this photograph because of my crooked bottom lip and tongue peeking out. My tongue usually does stick out the right side of my mouth. It has a mind of its own. Because of this, my pawrents sometimes call me "Crazy Tongue." But my real nickname is Parcheesi (hence the name of my blog). I understand the "Crazy Tongue" name; but I'm not sure why they call me Parcheesi. Except that its cute and fun to say. My pawrents are crazy!
I do know why they named me Archie. My mama pawrent told me. You can tell by my photograph that my eyes are really, really far a-p-a-r-t. Dana said my wide set eyes were what set me apart from the rest of the puppies in my litter, and made me different enough to be the one she wanted to pick up and snuggle. One month, to the day, after I was born, Shaun & Dana went to see a movie that inspired my name. The movie had a character that was a superhero. The superhero had a flying device/ship named Archie. It looked like an owl. The windows were big circles set far apart like owl eyes. When Dana came home from that movie, she began calling me Archie. I think my name suits me and I like it just fine. I always come when my pawrents use it to call me. Sometimes I ignore them when they call me Parcheesi though. I like that name too, but I'm trying to train them that they can't have everything they want.

Archie's Blog Begins

Hello! My name is Archie. I am a 7 month old male puppy. I live with my 2 pawrents, Shaun & Dana. I also live with my older furry siblings: Zoe, Catfish, Luna & Cadillac. My biological parents are Hurley & Fiona. I was born on February 8, 2009, at Shaun & Dana's house. It is fun living here with them and my brothers & sisters because there is always someone to play with me. I like being the youngest one in this family because I get a lot of attention!

For the past couple of months, my mama pawrent, Dana, has been thinking of writing a blog about me. She would mention it to friends and family, and they liked the idea. My nana grand-pawrent, Barbara, loved the idea and encouraged her to do it. My papa pawrent, Shaun, said "Blog that dog!"

But Dana never started one. And my feelings got hurt. I am way too adorable and funny not to have a blog. So I am going to write my own. That'll show Dana. People will follow my blog and I will be famous! She will regret not starting one devoted to how awesome I am.

My mama pawrent just read what I wrote above. And she is making me tell you that the only reason she didn't start a blog for me is because every time she sat down to begin writing it, she decided she would rather be playing with me. Awwww. Okay, I forgive her.

I will be blogging about life with my family and our funny adventures. Soon, I will write a few posts about the past 7 months of my life to catch you up to the present. I will post lots of photographs so you can see how handsome I am. My blog will entertain you and allow you to see the world from my eyes.

Welcome & Enjoy!
